HOW WE REAR OUR HALAL FREE RANGE TASTY TURKEYS
Similarly to our Halal Free Range Chickens our Halal Free Range Turkeys spend their time outdoors grazing on grass.
Our slow grown Bronze Free Range Turkeys have being doing just that since July! Having arrived on the farm as day olds from a local hatchery they are kept warm and occupied indoors until they are moved out to graze. They are a very slow grown bird which gains weight very slowly for an incredible flavour. Similarly to our chickens they are also fed an Organic ration supplied by Marriages of Chelmsford.
We have spoken to many people who said that they don’t like turkey and we replied neither did we until we learnt how to rear them ourselves!
Using traditional British methods our Halal Free Range Turkeys are slow grown, hand slaughtered (unstunned), dry plucked and then left to hang just like a game bird allowing it to develop its amazing flavor, hanging meat is a culinary process, commonly used in beef aging, that improves the flavour of meats by allowing the natural enzymes in the meat to break down the tissue through dry aging. The process also allows the water in the meat to evaporate, thus concentrating the flavour.
Commercially available turkeys; sadly like most meat in this country; have been mass produced, slaughtered and shipped to butchers, this process does not allow time for the meat to hang and resulting in a bland product.
ZUSS Halal; WE REAR, WE CARE, WE SLAUGHTER, WE SHARE.
